SELECTIONS
Two gates. First, apply with what already exists — a film you've made, or the script. Then finalists make a short animatic of one key sequence in two weeks, with the room's help — phone footage, stick figures, AI, whatever gets closest to the film. Selections follow.
FILM
The slate goes into production. We package and produce it start to finish, livestreaming the entire process for free on our YouTube channel.
GREENLIGHT NIGHT
Every film premieres to a full room. The audience pledges their votes, and select films get further packaged for studios.
NOT IN NEW YORK?
Every production, livestreamed.
The whole slate is made in the open — writers' room to final cut — and streamed on our channel, so you can learn from every film we make, wherever you are.
WATCH ON YOUTUBE →QUESTIONS?
We've got answers.
Who can apply?
Anyone. Members get first access to develop their project in our physical NYC studio space, but the slate is open internationally. We fund great talent and ideas, not resumes.
What does the funding cover?
We currently spend ~$10-30K+ per quarter, funding 1-5 proof-of-concept films. We offset the minimal budget by helping produce: attaching talent, providing gear, distribution channels, etc.
What's the animatic?
A rough, moving version of one key sequence — under three minutes. Stick figures, iPhone shots, AI frames, temp sound, anything. We're not judging polish; we're looking for cinematic language: rhythm, framing, where the cut lands. Only finalists make one, and we help.
Who owns the film?
You keep the rights. If the concept does well, we take a minimal revenue share and an option on the expanded version, but the goal is to launch your career by making great films for modern audiences.
What happens at Greenlight Night?
Every film in the quarter premieres to a full room. The audience pledges their votes, and select projects will receive follow-on funding for developing the bigger version of the concept.
Do I have to be in New York?
To shoot with us, yes — production runs from our physical NYC studio space. We will cover travel and accommodations if needed. To learn from us, no. Every step is livestreamed, free, wherever you are.
